Obituary of Eric Westphal Johnson

Eric Westphal Johnson, age 74, a resident of Ambler, PA for 34 years and formerly of Denver, CO, died on March 11, 2023. He was the devoted husband of Karen DeWald Johnson for 35 years.
Born in Oneonta, NY, Eric was the son of the late James Stanley Johnson and the late Geraldine Westphal Johnson.
Eric graduated from Port Washington High School in 1968. He continued his education at Cornell University, from where he earned his Bachelor of Science in 1974 and Master of Regional Planning in 1978.
Eric was an environmental scientist and was employed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as the Branch Chief of Technical Support Program in the Hazardous Waste Division. He retired in 2014 after 35 years of service.
He was a member of the Abington Presbyterian Church from 1989 – present. He also was a member of the church book club. Eric was a trail steward for Schuylkill Bike Trail System and volunteered with Wissahickon Watershed on trail maintenance.
Eric enjoyed golfing, hiking, crossword puzzles, biking and photography. He especially loved cheering for University of Virginia basketball team, as well as all of the Philadelphia sports teams, particularly the Phillies.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his loving children: Drew Johnson of Ambler, PA and Corey Johnson of Winston-Salem, NC; and by his step-sister, Sheila Johnson.
Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 16, 2023, Abington Presbyterian Church, 1082 Old York Road, Abington, PA. Relatives and friends will be received from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be held privately.
