Obituary of Jean H. Ellison

Jean Holsclaw Ellison August 9, 1928 – February 10, 2024 Jean Holsclaw Ellison, age 95, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully on February 10, 2024. She was born in Richmond, Virginia to parents Ross and Marie (Livingstone) Holsclaw, and grew up in Hopewell, Virginia as one of six children. She earned a nursing degree at the University of Virginia where she met her husband, Tom (Dr. Richard T. Ellison, Jr.) She and Tom moved to Jenkintown, PA in 1952 where they raised their three sons and she lived the rest of her life. She was very active in the community and for years helped with the June Fete fund raising program for Abington Memorial Hospital. Beginning in the 1970's as a breast cancer survivor she began to volunteer for the American Cancer Society helping support women who underwent surgery for breast cancer. She was also a long-standing member of the congregation of Church of our Saviour in Jenkintown where she had been involved in the vestry and choir. Jean was an enthusiastic golfer and very passionate about the game of bridge. She helped start a women's bridge group that met monthly for over 50 years and participated in competitive bridge up until she was in her early nineties. She is predeceased by her husband, her four sisters and her brother (Elizabeth Sierichs, Frances Brown, Kathryn Hunter, Ann Hughes, and Ross Holsclaw, Jr.) and granddaughter Catherine Ellison. She is survived by her three sons and their spouses (Richard and Gretchen, John and Deborah, and Stephen and Denise); her grandchildren Sean Ellison, Matthew Ellison, Stephen Ellison, Jr., Michael Ellison, Jared Ellison, and Leslie Ellison Quinton; and eight great-grandchildren. A memorial service for the family will be held later this Spring.
