Obituary of Jean DeKalb Kraus

Jean Young DeKalb Kraus, age 99, a resident of Pine Run Retirement Community for the past 8 years and formerly of Dorchester Estates in Souderton, PA died on December 28, 2023. She was the beloved wife of the late Louis Charles Kraus for 56 years until his death in 2000.
Born in Bellerose, NY on October 29, 1924, Jean was the daughter of the late Ralph Vernon DeKalb and the late Dorothy Creasinger Brown.
She graduated from Abington High School in 1941 and then attended Pierce Business College. After raising her family, she continued her education and, in 1985 at the age of 61, earned her degree in Business Administration from Marywood College.
She was a dedicated wife, homemaker, mother and grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed cooking.
In 1988, she retired, after 27 years of employment, as a Secretary for Glasgow, Inc. in Glenside, PA. Early in her career, she worked for United States Army Hearing Board, Philadelphia F.B.I., Abington School District, Doylestown Hospital Village Improvement Association, Mercer Museum of Doylestown and Heritage Towers.
She was a member of the Doylestown Branch of AAUW (American Association of University Women).
Jean was a member of Doylestown Presbyterian Church, where she served as Deacon. She was a former member of Abington Presbyterian Church for 52 years, where she was an Elder, taught Sunday School and served on the the Ministry of Children Committee.
She is survived by her loving daughter Cathy L. and husband Eric DeWald, son-in-law, Charles Kleeman; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00Am on Thursday, January 4, 2024, Doylestown Presbyterian Church, 127 E. Court Street, Doylestown PA, where relatives and friends will be received from 10:00 AM until the time of the service and after the service. Interment will be in Whitemarsh Memorial Park.
