Obituary of Nancy Landis Wood

Nancy Landis Wood, age 101, a lifetime resident of Wyncote, PA, died peacefully at her home, on April 19, 2023. She was the devoted wife of the late Frank Arcturus Wood, Jr. for 72 years.
Born and raised in Wyncote, Nancy was the daughter of the late Harold Swindells Landis and the late Anna Moore Lyon.
After graduating from Cheltenham High School in 1939, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from Ursinus College in 1943. While in college, she was a member of the Phi Alpha Psi Sorority and was president of the Women's Athletic Association. Nancy met her husband, Frank, while at Ursinus College and they were married May 6, 1944 at Calvary Presbyterian Church.
She was a devoted wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was employed as a physical education teacher at Lansdowne High School. She also was a women's basketball and field hockey official for 35 years.
Nancy was a life-long active member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in Wyncote, where she taught Sunday school.
She enjoyed antiques, traveling, gardening, and playing tennis and bridge. She especially enjoyed summers at her family home in Stone Harbor, NJ, since the early 1930's.
Nancy is survived by her loving children: Nancy W. Mayes and husband, Jay, of Center Valley, PA, Sandra Wilkes of Alpharetta, GA, and J. David Wood of Wyncote, PA; by four grandchildren: Karen, Jay Stacy and Stephen and by nine great-grandchildren: Caeley, Mara, Joey, Jimmy, Billy, Alison, Austin, Victor and Noam. She was preceded in death by her brothers, John D. Landis, Robert Landis, and her son-in-law, James C. Wilkes Jr.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 217 Fernbrook Avenue, Wyncote, PA, where relatives and friends will be received from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment in Washington Crossing National Cemetery will be held privately.
