Obituary of Harris Scott Lipton
Please share a memory of Harris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Harris "Hesh" Lipton, age 73, a resident of Mount Airy, PA passed away in the comfort of his home on April 15, 2023. He was the devoted husband of the late Nancy J. Lipton (Ilgen).
Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the beloved son to the late Alan Lipton and Sylvia "Cissie" Lipton and brother of Lonnie Lipton. He grew up surrounded by friends and family in Northeast Philadelphia, where he attended George Washington High School and was a member of his local chapter of Sigma Alpha Rho (SAR) Fraternity. After high school, he attended Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science and graduated from Pennsylvania State University with an associates degree in the college of Hotel and Restaurant Management.
His degree helped him to excel in customer service and business management which he then used to support and eventually take over the family business, the renowned Cissie's Linen Closet located in Krewstown Shopping Center in Northeast Philadelphia. He then went on to work specifically in furniture sales until he retired.
Hesh was an avid Philadelphia sports fan. He loved watching the Phillies, Eagles, Sixers and Flyers. He was a devoted fan his whole life and had an uncanny ability to remember players, stats and games.
In addition to watching sports, he enjoyed every opportunity to pick up a ball and play with whoever was up for a game. He coached both his daughter's and grandson's little league teams, cheered on his niece and nephew who are/were avid soccer players, and played golf with friends for many years.
Hesh made friends wherever he went. He was a great listener and storyteller. He also loved to make people laugh and always had a joke or an amusing comment that could brighten up a room.
Hesh is survived by his daughter Jaime Schlorff and her husband Brian, his daughter Rachel Reilly and her husband Robert, and his four grandchildren, Ellery, Michael, Griffin and Juniper who knew him as their Poppy.
Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Sunday, April 23, 2023, Helweg & Rowland Funeral Home, 1500 Old York Road, Abington, where relatives and friends will be received from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be private.
Shiva will be observed at the home of Rachel and Robert Reilly on Sunday, April 23, 2023 from 12:30 PM until sunset. All are welcome.
