Dave was my first cousin, our fathers being brothers. Although we rarely saw Dave, I knew of his books, and purchased and read his Inside Hoover's FBI. I admired his integrity, grit and dedication through his life. My deepest sympathies to all his family.

Linda, it is many a year since we had dinner with Dave and you with my parents, back when he was working from Sen. Schweiker and I was still in law school. I have always regretted that our paths had not crossed more -- although I have enjoyed both of Dave's books. And from one writer reading another, you know a man better sometimes from his writing than from many other things! His books bore the marks of intelligence; civic spirit; a willingness to say what needs to be said even not everyone wants to hear it; a gentle spirit; and care and diligence for legal craftsmanship. A credit to his profession, his family, his city, his country, and his faith. A good life well lived. Our prayers for you and your family.

I first met Dave in 1977 when he offered me a position on his staff of federal prosecutors in Philadelphia. He was a great boss who aimed for the stars and was a wise mentor to many young attorneys. We maintained a friendship for more than 45 years. We shared many legal cases together. He was a brilliant lawyer. But what I will remember the most about Dave is that he always brought a sense of humor and graciousness to everything he did. His decency, integrity and humanity were always present. He made a difference in this world. Rest in peace my old friend.

Not many gatherings, but often in my thoughts, Dave, Linda, and Joanie, Ed and the furthest one - Tom.
I always felt good having a family of first cousins nearby, but it was unusually nice to be in the Marstons’ beautiful home for his father’s memorial service because there were so many of his family members there.
I regret the reason that will bring so many together this time.
In families with boys there is often a “big brother”, the eldest boy.
When my dad and his – my Uncle Dave – had one of our infrequent family gatherings, even I could feel like he was “big brother” to me.

My husband Bob worked for Dave for many years, first at Buchanan Ingersoll and then at Reed Smith. They remained friends when Dave went to practice at Gibbons. Dave and Linda always treated us with such kindness and generosity and even included us in some of their family celebrations. It was an honor to them.

Please extend my condolences to David Marston’s family. I briefly practiced law with David at Montgomery, McCracken and followed him at Buchanan Ingersoll. We’d find each other frequently at running races silently marveling at the fact that we were both upright and kind of running. He was a man with a sterling reputation about whom I’ve never heard a negative word. I’ll remember him.

I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Marston at Gibbons in the Philadelphia Office. He was the kindest and nicest person I have ever met and was always around with a nice work and a thank you for anything that you did for him.
My condolences to his wife Linda and all his children, grandchildren, family and friend. You are all in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
