Obituary of Margaret Elizabeth Woodring Brown

Margaret Elizabeth Woodring Brown, age 96, a 21-year resident of The Rydal Park Retirement Community and formerly of the Overlook Hills Section of Abington Township, PA and Huntingdon Valley, PA died on October 25, 2022. She was the devoted wife of the late James Russel Brown, Jr. for 47 years.
Born in Philadelphia, Peg was the beloved daughter of the late Irl Russel Woodring and the late Elisabeth Sultzberger. She graduated from Girls' High School in 1944 and continued her education at Temple University, from where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education.
After graduation from Temple, Peg was employed as a first grade school teacher at the Pennypacker School in West Oak Lane. She also was Director of Christian Education at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Feasterville in the 1980s, and Director of Music & Science at The Willow School in Willow Grove in the 1990s.
Peg served on the Church Council of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Abington, where she directed the Junior Choir and was a Sunday School Teacher. She was on the Board of Directors at Rydal Park and a member of the Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority.
Peg was an accomplished, classically trained pianist and soprano. Children were her joy. She traveled extensively throughout Europe, Asia, Africa and the South Pacific. She spent summers at the Jersey Shore and in the Monadnock region of New Hampshire.
She is survived by her children, Elizabeth J. Hytha and Stephen P. Brown, and one grandchild, Stephanie Elizabeth Brown. She is also survived by her brother, Dr. Richard E. Woodring and his wife, Marie.
Memorial service will be held at noon on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, Meditation Room of Rydal Park, 6th Floor, 1515 The Fairway, Jenkintown, PA, where friends will be received from 11:30 AM until the time of the service. A reception will follow the service.
