I remember Harold from Immaculate Heart High School. I was a Freshman to his Senior. I remember him driving a group of us to basketball practice and games. In particular, I remember hanging out the rear window of his car to ask a girl to "go steady." For some reason she turned me down.
I saw him listed in the In Memorium section of the PennStater magazine. It brought a flood of memories.

I remember, as if were yesterday, visiting Harry at his office at Penn State in the 1960's with the expressed purpose of hiring him for a research position at the USDA, Philadelphia. I was impressed, Shorty thereafter, he took the job only to become one of the most prolific writers of scientific research that laboratory had ever produced, over 400 to his credit. He was as mentor for the many students who worked as interns at the Laboratory, Some of research we did together pre-dated some concepts of modern genetics as they relate to milk protein chemistry. (It was all serious fun). Our laboratory was known worldwide for knowledge in the Chemistry of Milk and Harry led the way. As his friend and colleague for many years, he gained my respect and admiration with never a harsh word between us. He will be missed.

I began my research career at the Eastern Regional lab of USDA about 10 years after Harry joined the staff. He was still there when I retired 33 years later. We never worked on the same projects. But that man had a positive love for biochemistry, which is also my profession, and because of that we had many interactions over research over the years. Harry was uniformly welcoming, friendly, optimistic, energetic, and without any concern for seniority or rank. He was aways willing to help, to welcome, to assist in any way possible. He was, in my opinion, a biochemist's biochemist - totally skilled and in love with what he did. That enthusiasm was contagious, and I enjoyed our interactions greatly. Time, distance, health and the Grim Reaper will keep many people from attending his Service, but to that many and more Harry's presence at Eastern and in our profession made the days just that much more enjoyable.

Both Harry & Sue meant so much to me while I was at Glenside. Such wonderful people that fully welcomed me into the church and their lives. Words feel lacking in trying to say how deeply they touched my life. Love you both.

Hi Sue and Family,
It's so hard to hear of Harry's passing. I always enjoyed standing next to Harry, my fellow base, while singing in the GUCC choir. RIP Harry, a job well done, you have won the race!
