Obituary of Suzanne Vaughan Vollmer

Suzanne Vaughan Vollmer, age 81, a resident of Ambler, PA for the past two years and formerly of Rydal, PA and Manahawkin, NJ for over 20 years died on October 4, 2020. She was the devoted wife of Earl S. Vollmer Jr. for 59 years. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, Suzanne was the daughter of the late Estella May Diaz and Major J.W. Vaughan, of the 101st Airborne Division, who was killed during D Day in Normandy. Estella May subsequently married the late William Harrison, who took care of Suzanne as his own daughter. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Lieutenant Stephen Harrison, and by her sister, Nancy Harrison. After graduating from Abington Senior High School in 1956, Suzanne earned her Associates Degree in English Literature from Centenary Junior College. She was a devoted wife, homemaker, mother and grandmother. Suzy was a lover of life and a supreme optimist. She was warm, and her smile and laugh lit up a room. She absolutely loved her family and had a special relationship with each of her six grandchildren giving each one of them a cute nickname. In addition to raising her children, she loved to travel with her husband, Earl (Tuck), and she worked as a travel agent for 12 years. Sue was a lover of beauty in all aspects of life, and her interests reflected that. Sue and Tuck spent many weekends in search of local antiques, and Sue was a member of the Quaker Bonnet Chapter of the Questers Group and a Docent at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Suzy loved gardening and horticulture and delighted in her own garden and those of others. She also attended the Barnes Foundation Certificate Program for Horticulture and was a member of the Maple Glen Garden Club and the Huntingdon Valley Garden Club. She loved good wine, seafood and chocolate butter creams and was a member of the Maple Glen Gourmet Group. She loved music, boating, birdwatching, and watching her husband Tuck sing as a member of The Orpheus Club of Philadelphia. Sue drove her little convertible with the top down and the wind blowing through her hair. She adored animals and she and Tuck always had multiple dogs and raised and showed Irish Setters for many years. She was such a positive force in life and in her family, and her spirit and love will be greatly missed. In addition to her husband, Suzanne is survived by her loving children and their spouses: Vivica and Emil Albanese of Northport, NY; Eleanor Kay and Steven Hart of Plymouth Meeting, PA and Fletcher and Judith Vollmer of Glenside, PA and by her six grandchildren: Tommy, William, Lily, Vaughan, Emma and Alex. Sue will be interred at the family plot at Hillside Cemetery and a memorial service will be held at a future date.
