Hello, I am a distant relative of Bernice. Her father and my great-great grandfather were brothers, they were born in Bukowina in Poland. I live here in Poland as well. My family in Poland and Bernice were exchanging letters until about 2005. We thought that she died around that time and were surprised to find out that she died so recently. I am interested in genealogy and my family's history so I would be very grateful for any contact and knowledge about this side of my family. My e-mail is: filip.nowak040903@onet.pl .
Best regards,
Filip Nowak

Bernice and Penny as we called her, met in 1954 at the Francis E. Warren AFB in Cheyenne, Wyoming We were both Air Force Nurse Corps nurses. We have been friends ever since. We wrote to each other on a regular basis (not emails) over the years. Visited her a couple of times in her beloved Philly. She introduced me to the Philadelphia Museum of Art and she never missed an exhibit. She also bought me my first philly cheese steak sandwich! Penny was a wonderful nurse, so caring, so kind and so intelligent. She never missed a Philadelphia Symphony, which she enjoyed so much. I will miss hearing from her. The last person, I know, who wrote real letters! We shared that we were both Polish and went to the Polish store when I visited her.
I will miss you dear friend.
With love,
Blanche Alexander

Bernice loved daffodils! My dad, Bill, grew daffodils. When he learned Bernice liked them, he picked a bunch of them every year and took them down to her. Her eyes lit up when she saw them! Bernice will be missed.

Bernice was a wonderful woman, distant relative, and friend. When my daughter and baby son went to see Bernice, she fell in love with my grandson and watched him grow up throughout the years. We went to see her last year, my grandson was 11 years young. Bernice looked so good glad to see my family and my daughter and grandson were thrilled to see her. We are sad she is gone, but she is in a wonderful place especially for her with The Lord in heaven. I pray and will always remember her kind ways.
Love, Nancy Hutnick Musick, Amelia Hutnick Lewis with Tyler.

Bernice was such a warm and caring person. She never married or had a family but she loved all her nieces and nephews (and some cousins -me) so much. When I was a little girl she would always find ways to have one on one special time with me - she would take me to art and cultural events in Philadelphia and was pretty much the embodiment of "treat yourself" before that was "a thing." I still have a small box of some of the special things she gave me when I was a little kid. She was forever sending a beautiful paperweight, statue or bottle of perfume to make you feel special. She was also really intelligent and in the days before sending people articles online she would clip them from the newspaper and send them in a letter if she saw something she thought might interest you. You always knew you were never really far from Bernice's mind and always in her heart. She will be missed.

Bernice was a compassionate and caring nurse. On her last day as a school nurse, a school employee had a heart attack, she recognized what was happening and saved the persons life. In the 1980s, Bernice traveled with my family and the Krakowiak Polish Dancers of Boston to Rome and Poland. We had mass with Pope John Paul II, the children’s group did a quick krakowiak with Lajkonic, and then sightseeing in Rome. In Poland, Bernice visited her family, the Dorosz family in Ursus, and the festival in Rzeszow. She enjoyed this trip so much and was a great help to all. In later years, we visited her often at Rydal and last year when we visited she arranged so that her family and relatives in the area could join us for a party with her. We sang sto lat, a polish song wishing her a hundred years of good life. She almost made it, 95 wonderful years of working and caring for others. Rest In Peace, Bernice!
