Obituary of John Lapp Waite

John Lapp Waite, age 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 23, 2020 from complications due to COVID-19 in the medical center at Rydal Park Retirement Community in Jenkintown, PA, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. John (Jack) was born on January 24, 1939 in Rochester, New York to Judith and Richard Waite. He graduated from Irondequoit High School in Rochester in 1957. He received a bachelor's degree from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA, where he met his future wife, Evelynne Marie McCartney. Jack and Evelynne have been married for 58 years. Jack attained Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries and was an accomplished pension actuary, serving many clients during his years at Alexander & Alexander (later Aon). During his career he displayed his remarkable skill at teaching and communicating complex financial analysis to a broad audience of pension plan sponsors, co-workers and actuarial students. Before and during retirement he pursued his many interests, including gardening, golf, genealogy, painting, wood working, reading, traveling, and spending time with his family. He also served his community as a member of Kiwanis, Meals on Wheels, serving on the board of the Abington YMCA, volunteering at the Abington Free Library and as an active member of Abington Presbyterian Church. Earlier in life he was an avid runner and musician (trumpet) and was an active leader in Abington Boy Scout Troop 1. Jack is survived by his wife, sons Jon (Denise), Matt (Stephen) and Tim (Kathy) and five grandchildren as well as his brother Steven. He will be remembered for his devotion and dedication as a husband and father, his character, intelligence and humor and for his inspirational role as a leader, teacher and friend to all who knew him in life. His immediate family will participate in a service to celebrate his life on May 30, 2020 and he will be laid to rest in the memorial garden at Abington Presbyterian Church.
