Even when he was no longer in the classroom teaching reading..... he was invited to read to many teachers. And, the student enjoyed every moment.

It's now been over a week since Dr. Bud Brown passed away, and it still seems as if it can't be so. His presence and impact on the Upper Dublin community and those around him were that significant. I had the great pleasure, and even honor, to "grow up" under his influence and tutelage. He hired me in the summer of 1972 as a fledgling teacher, and until his 2001 retirement I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with him on many district issues. We had countless discussions, and certainly some disagreements. But, regardless of the topic he was always respectful of each other's role. And most importantly, he always had his eye on the big picture. He absolutely knew in what direction he wanted the district to go, and how to get there. He was the original man with a plan. There is no question that the Upper Dublin school system and the community at large are better places because of Bud Brown's vision and leadership.

I had the pleasure of working very closely with Dr. Brown as a member of the Upper Dublin School Board from 1975-81 including two years as President of the School Board. These were some turbulent times for Dr. Brown, the Board and the community. Bud was a visionary and an outstanding communicator. But his focus was always in the best interest of children and the township. He amassed a great administrative staff as well as outstanding teachers. I considered Dr. Brown a friend as I got to know him closely during my presidency on the Board. The world and definitely the Upper Dublin District is far better because of this great man. My condolences go out to all of the family. Your loss of a great man is in my prayers.

Dr. Brown hired me in July 1991 as a third grade teacher. I had just graduated from college, and he interviewed me for a position at Jarrettown Elementary School. It was one of the best moments of my life. He was supportive of me in multiple ways throughout my career in Upper Dublin, and even after his retirement and my eventual move to another district as an administrator, our paths remained intertwined. I was fortunate enough to be principal to three of his grandchildren. My greatest fortune is that he remained an influential and supportive figure in my career for all those years and up to this day. I am most grateful that I had the chance to see him last at his grandson's graduation. I was always greeted with a warm smile and a huge hug from him, and I will miss that most.
Thank you, Dr. Brown, for always being a supportive, caring mentor in my life and career. You will forever hold a special place in my heart.

Dr. Brown and my father Frederic Judd were very close friends. As many of you know my father served as the Assistant Superintendent and Director of Curriculum for the Upper Dublin School District for many years, Bud Brown was his boss. My dad had such great admiration for Dr. Brown, they worked together well to accomplish many things in the school district. Ginny and Bud Brown were frequent visitors to my parent’s home in Tucson, Arizona where my parents retired. Ginny and my mother were always very close friends and we loved their kids, spending time with them at their shore house, etc. What I know about Dr. Brown is he was a visionary, he was extremely bright and ahead of his time. He was also a very gregarious man with a fantastic personality and really cared about those he loved. I can only imagine how Ginny and his children will miss him. He read the eulogy at my dads funeral including comments from each of my siblings. It was masterful as was everything he did. I will never forget him. My love to all of the Browns. Ellen Judd Faulkner.

Dr. Brown was my 'boss' for 13 1/2 years. I reported directly to him in a new position as School/Community Relations Coordinator. He supported and valued the teachers and staff in their efforts to make the students their professional priority. Dr. Brown was more than committed.... he was steadfast in his leadership role, devoted to the entire township, creative about partnership efforts to benefit the students and staff, and always optimistic that working together could solve problems. Upper Dublin School District won national recognition for its: "It Takes Everyone" endeavors. The theme was uttered often and with meaning. His intentions were authentic and true. I feel blessed to have had him as my boss. Never did I learn as much in any other position as I did working for him. He never spent time gossiping or disparaging others. That gave me the freedom to do my job without restrictions. Together we initiated the key communicators group: parents in each school building who handled the school's PR and also the school newsletters. It empowered them to know and promote "the good news" about education. It uplifted all of us, which of course was a benefit to the students, as he knew it would be. There are an endless list of accomplishments that he should be credited with that have lasted until this day. He would certainly not have liked me going on and on like this (!). He certainly did not like me to take his picture as often as I did, but he cooperated. I learned to be fast with the camera! Thank you, Bud Brown, for 'being there' for me when my son died and my life seemed to be falling apart. You didn't treat me any differently, but respected how I handled the situations life threw my way. When I met up with Tom, who became my husband, he too recognized the brilliance in this man. I haven't mentioned his family here, but he loved Ginny and his 4 children and was thrilled at having grandchildren and great grand kids too. When he had his 9th grandchild, he said he now had his own school board! One almost missed those quick, witty comments! Now, you and Tom are together maybe rolling your eyes at how much I have to say!
