Obituary of Marie Louise Reese

Marie Louise Reese, age 96, a resident of The Hill at Whitemarsh in Lafayette Hill, PA since 2009 and formerly of Huntingdon Valley, PA for more than 50 years died on June 21, 2019.   She was the devoted wife of the late Walter D. Reese for 64 years, until his death in 2010.

Born in Philadelphia, Marie was the daughter of the late Charles H. Thompson, Jr. and the late Florence M. Seitz Thompson.  In 1940, Marie graduated from Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia and then earned her Associate’s degree from Pine Manor College in Brookline, MA.

She was a devoted wife, mother, homemaker, grandmother and great-grandmother. 

Marie was a member of The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and the Junior League Huntingdon Valley Chapter.   She enjoyed gardening and in her younger years played golf and tennis.  Marie was also fond of cooking, knitting, sewing and needlepoint.  She played the piano and enjoyed singing, especially with the church choir.  

She was a member of the former St. John’s Episcopal Church in Huntingdon Valley and most recently was a member of St. Thomas’ Church Whitemarsh in Ft. Washington.

She is survived by her son, W. David Reese Jr.; by her four grandchildren: Brook Sawyer, Tucker Ervin, Tanner Ervin and Elizabeth Ervin and by five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Elizabeth Ervin, by her brothers; Charles H. Thompson, III and Robert P. Thompson and by her sister, Elizabeth T. Harbison.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at St. Thomas’ Church Whitemarsh, Camp Hill Road and Bethlehem Pike, Ft. Washington, where friends will be received from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.   A reception at The Hill at Whitemarsh will follow the service.    Interment will be private.   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Delaware Humane Society, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE  19801.
