Obituary of Brian Timothy Gallagher

Brian Timothy Gallagher, beloved son and brother, passed away unexpectedly on October 24, 2018 at the age of 64. Born in Newark, NJ, he was the son of Mary Ellen Gallagher and the late John W. Gallagher. Brian grew up in Chatham, NJ, and lived there until 2015 when he relocated to Jenkintown, PA. He graduated from Chatham High School in 1973 and the Para-Educator Center of New York University in 1975. He worked for many years at Ciba-Geigy and Novartis, as well as two local A&P stores. After leaving Novartis, Brian worked for the Chatham school system before retiring in 2013. Brian loved to travel with both family and friends. He enjoyed traveling in the US to Cape Cod, Yosemite, Arizona and the Grand Canyon, and South Dakota to experience an Indian pow-wow. His adventures abroad included trips to London, Ireland, Italy, Turkey, and Greece. His favorite trips were to Alaska to see brown bears and Canada to see polar bears. While living in Chatham, Brian regularly attended the theater in NYC. In addition to his mother, Mary Ellen, of Jenkintown, Brian is survived by his four siblings: Kathy Gatewood (Lee) of North Chatham, MA; Tom Gallagher (Nancy) of Lake Zurich, IL; Trish Gallagher (Rick Ferry) of Glenside, PA; and Sheila Gallagher (Joe Jagiello) of Morris Plains, NJ. Brian was a loving uncle to Andrea Bellavia (Seva Trakhtman), Drew and Blair Gatewood, Kevin and Kyle Gallagher, and great uncle to Logan and Stella Trakhtman. Brian is also survived by his stepmother, Mary Jane Gallagher. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 24th, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. in the Meditation Room at Rydal Park, 1515 The Fairway, Jenkintown, PA 19046, with a reception immediately following.
