Obituary of Harold Nason Grier, Jr.
Harold “Hal” N. Grier, Jr., 90, a resident of the Rydal Park Retirement Community for the past nine years, died on August 28, 2017. He was the beloved husband of 64 years to Esther (née Hood) Grier. He was a former resident of Meadowbrook, PA for 35 years and Oreland, PA for 20 years.
Born in the Germantown Section of Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Harold N. Grier, Sr. and the late Edith (née Meyer) Grier.
Hal graduated from Cheltenham High School in 1945.
He served in Okinawa as a Seaman First Class in the U.S. Navy just after World War II, and his efforts were honored with a Victory Medal. Returning from service, Hal completed a B.S. in Business Administration from Temple University in 1953.
Hal was a realtor and owner of Grier Real Estate in Jenkintown for 63 years before retiring.
Hal enjoyed golf and was active in many local organizations, including the Montgomery County Association of Realtors, Rotary Club of Jenkintown, Abington Police Athletic League, Masonic Lodge and served on The Board of Directors of Abington Memorial Hospital (now Abington-Jefferson Health) and on The Board of Directors of Abington Savings Bank (now BB&T).
He was a member of Oreland Presbyterian Church for 60 years, where he served as a Trustee.
In addition to his wife, Esther, he is survived by his loving son and daughter-in-law, Bruce H. and Elaine G. Grier of Gaithersburg, MD; and by his dear grandsons, Brian C. Grier and Matthew J. Grier.
Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at Oreland Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 1119 Church Road, Oreland, PA, where friends will be received after the service. Additionally, a Memorial Service will take place in the Auditorium of Rydal Park, 1515 The Fairway, Rydal, PA, on Friday, September 8, 2017, at 1:30 p.m. Interment in Whitemarsh Memorial Park was held privately.
