Obituary of Mary Lou Kuhl
Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Louise Kuhl, late of Rydal Park, died peacefully at her home on February 23, 2015 of a sudden illness at the age of 87. Born July 8, 1927 to Joseph and Olga (Pat) Kyofski, Mary Lou grew up in Elkland, Tioga County, Pennsylvania with younger brother Joseph. After graduating from Elkland High School, she graduated from the Rochester Business Institute in Rochester, New York with the class of 1946. Mary Lou secured a position at Mansfield College (now Mansfield University) where she was courted by her soon to be husband Philip H. Kuhl of Lawrenceville, Pennsylvania.
Marrying on October 16, 1948, the young couple were soon raising a growing family as they moved from Troy, New York, to Cleveland, Ohio, and to Albany, New York as children Kathryn, Barbara, Philip, Richard, Robert and Nancy joined the family. In 1962 the family moved to Jenkintown, Pennsylvania where Mary Lou's seventh child, Jonathan, was born.
In 1970, Mary Lou began her long career as an administrative assistant with Ames Publishing (later Chilton), retiring in 1992. In addition to raising her seven children and supporting their varied pursuits, Mary Lou was active in her adopted Jenkintown community. Of particular note was her thirty years of service as an election official in her district, most years as judge of elections. She joined other members of her family in dedicated involvement with Jenkintown Music Theatre, assisting with the props department for over thirty years. A lover of bridge, she kept active with her neighborhood bridge club up to the time of her death. From the family home in Jenkintown, Mary Lou moved to Rydal Park in 2007 where she made new friends while staying active with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Philip H. Kuhl and her brother, Joseph Kyofski. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Kathryn K. and Peter Davis of Huntingdon Valley, Barbara and Javier Mendoza of Devon, Philip Rockwell and Susan Kuhl of Maple Glen, Richard V. and Laurel Kuhl of Jenkintown, Robert Kuhl of Coudersport, PA, Nancy and Greg Dillett of Meadowbrook, and Jonathan W. and Michele Kuhl of Wyncote. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Bonnie Kyofski of Nelson, PA, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Phineas R. and Patricia Kuhl of Mullica Hill, NJ.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 7, 2015, Grace Presbyterian Church, 444 Old York Road (at Vista Road), Jenkintown, where friends will be received after the service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jenkintown Music Theatre, P.O. Box 2005, Jenkintown, PA 19046.
