Obituary of Mary Niblock Zimmers

Mary Niblock Zimmers, 95, of Abington, PA and for the last four years a resident at Saucon Valley Manor in Hellertown, PA; passed away January 17, 2015. She was the wife of the late Emory W. Zimmers Sr. They were married December 14, 1940. Born in Abington on September 5, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Vallee Williams Niblock and Samuel Watt Niblock. Mary was a graduate of Abington High School and Drexel Institute of Technology where she was a member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority. She was a member of Abington Presbyterian Church which she joined in 1932 and was the oldest living member at the time of her death. During her career Mary worked in both the medical and retail sectors of the economy. For 43 years she was the Secretary/Treasurer of the commercial lighting business founded by her husband. When he died in 1998, she assumed the role of President which she performed until recently. She was a long time member of the Illuminating Engineering Society (I.E.S.) Philadelphia Chapter where she served on the Executive Board and recently as a Board Member Emeritus. Mary was especially proud of the recognition accorded her husband by the naming of the Annual I.E.S. Golf Outing in his honor where she was invited to participate in the planning committee. She was also a member of the Engineers' Club of Philadelphia for many years. She enjoyed playing bridge, golfing with her husband, especially at Sky Top Lodge in the Poconos. In her later years she appreciated the various activities offered, caring environment, and truly exceptional staff at Saucon Valley Manor.
Survivors: Son, Emory W. Zimmers Jr. and his wife Linda Zimmers of Bethlehem, PA; grandsons Michael, Andrew and his wife Nichole of Bethlehem and great grandchildren Kali and Logan. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and many close friends. Mary was predeceased by two sisters and one brother.
Services: The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, January 24th, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by an 11 a.m. service all at Abington Presbyterian Church, 1082 Old York Road, Abington, PA 19001. Burial will follow in the Hatboro Cemetery.
Contributions: In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Abington Presbyterian Church or the Illuminating Engineering Society Scholarship Fund.
