Obituary of Christine H. Luce

Christine Henning Luce, a resident of Rydal Park Retirement Community, died on December 18, 2013. She was 88. Dr. Luce taught first grade in the Colonial School District, later becoming a Reading Specialist at the Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School. She graduated from Olney High School in 1943, and had an undergraduate and a master's degree from Temple University. In 1985 she received the degree of Doctor of Education from The University of Pennsylvania. After retiring in 1988 she enjoyed serving as a volunteer guide at the Morris Arboretum in Chestnut Hill. She became President of the Auxiliary of PresbyHomes & Services, now known as Presby's Inspired Life. She also served as President of her P.E.O. chapter. After retirement Dr. Luce enjoyed travel with her husband, Walter F. Luce. They participated in almost fifty Elderhostel vacations, with trips to many of the fifty states, Europe, Labrador and the Panama Canal. In addition to her husband of 67 years, Walter, she is survived by a son, Dr. Eric F. Luce, a daughter-in-law, Jane Cubberley Luce, a granddaughter, K.C. Luce, and a daughter Janet L. Luce. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 21, 2013 in The Auditorium of Rydal Park, 1515 The Fairway, Jenkintown, PA, where friends will be received after the service. Memorial donations may be made to The Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania, 100 Northwestern Ave., Philadelphia 19118 or to Hospice Compassus, 711 N. York Road, 2nd Floor, Willow Grove, PA 19090.
