Obituary of Robert William White
Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert William "Bill" White , age 66, of Blue Bell died on April 3, 2012. He was the devoted husband of Susan Taft White. He is also survived by his loving children; Brian White (Sarah) and Lisa Burns (Jim); by his dear grandchildren; Tim, Chris, Lauren, Lexi, Jimmy and Joey and by his sisters; Judie Van Cleave and Sandy Nesbitt.
Bill worked at Sperry Univac from 1968 to 1981 rising from a management trainee to positions of responsibility within the corporate finance department. In 1981, Bill joined Winpak in Bensalem, PA as Controller and remained with Winpak until his retirement. In retirement, he was a member of the Friends of the Wissahickon Valley Public Library, serving as Treasurer for several years. In 2005, Bill and Sue were elected "Citizens of the Week" by the Ambler Gazette for their time and commitment to the public library.
Bill was an avid sports fan all his life. As a child he attended baseball games at the old Shibe Park in Philadelphia with his father and lived through the agony of 1964 with all Phillies fans. He played baseball at Abington High School and later developed a love of skiing that he shared with his family. In his final years he watched each and every Phillies game rejoicing in the team's championship in 2008.
From an early age Bill had a great love for computers. He was ahead of his time in purchasing a home computer, a Radio Shack Tandy in the 1970s and then an Osbourne portable computer in the 1980s. His passion for the use of computers was evident in many facets of his personal and professional life, including the creation of multiple electronic family genealogies.
Bill lived with multiple sclerosis for many years and spent the final four years of his life at Manor Care, a rehabilitation center in Montgomeryville, PA. He formed caring relationships with his nurses and caregivers there and will be missed by many.
