William James Young, Jr. age 100, died peacefully, surround by his family, on August 9, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Ruth Lambert Young. Born on September 28, 1923, he was the son of the late William J. Young, Sr. and the late Margaret E. Wrey. His parents immigrated to the United States from Ireland back during the turn of the century. Other family members followed in subsequent years. William, better known as Bill, grew up in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania and has remained in that area all of his life. He graduated from Jenkintown High School and later served with the US ARMY during World War II. He was stationed in Europe. After the war ended, he returned home and went back to school to earn his degree from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He began his career with Moore Products where he remained until he retired in 1988. Bill met his wife, Ruth of 73 years, after the war at a dance hall. They were married on June 10,1950 at Stonehurst Hill United Methodist Church in Upper Darby, PA. They soon bought a house and raised their four children in that home. After retirement, Bill and Ruth enjoyed dancing and took up square dancing for many years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children and their spouses: Sharon Young, Debra and Robert Hinkle, William and Jennifer Young and David and Sandy Young; seven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. His sister, Gladys Kloske died in 2014. Funeral service and burial in Lawnview Cemetery will be held privately.
