Obituary of Carolyn Edge

Carolyn Edge, a resident of Harleysville, PA and formerly of Glenside PA, Limerick PA and Punta Gorda, FL died on December 20, 2015. She was the beloved wife of the late Howard Codell, until his death in 1966, and the late George Edge until his death in 1985.
She is survived by her loving daughters and their spouses: Theresa L. and Lawrence Frangiosa and Joy C. and Steven Rubeo. She is also survived by her step-daughters; Catherine Smith and her husband, Terry Smith and Eleanor Edge and her partner, Christopher Drake, and by her step-granddaughter, Alexandra Frangiosa.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 from 7:00 -9:00 PM and on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 from 10:00 -11:00 AM, Helweg & Rowland Funeral Home, 1059 Old York Road, Abington, where her funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery.
Carolyn lived life to the fullest, traveling extensively in her retirement years and taking up photography. She was kind to everyone she encountered and was a second mom and grandmom to many. They will continue to further her legacy through their words and deeds. She had a tremendous work ethic. Starting as a young widower, she held several administrative roles to support her 'girls'. She retired from General Electric in 1988. Her most important career after parenting was as a proprietor of a dog kennel and she fondly recalled those memories.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to any of the following organizations: St. James United Church of Christ, 321 S. Limerick Road, Limerick, PA 19468-1607: www.stjames-ucc.org; Carolyn attended this church with her two daughters for many years. She participated in choir and womens' fellowship and enjoyed the company of many friends from there. Joy is still a member.
Living Beyond Breast Cancer, 40 Monument Ave. Suite 104, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004. www.LBBC.org: Both Carolyn and her daughter (Joy) benefitted from the educational services of LBBC when they were diagnosed with breast cancer. LBBC provides programs and services to help people whose lives have been impacted by breast cancer with a goal of providing trusted information, community and support. Carolyn's daughter Terry is on the Board of Directors.
Geoffrey Beene Foundation – Alzheimer's Initiative, 13 E. 69th St., #2R, New York, NY 10065. http://geoffreybeene.com/alzheimers-initiative/: Carolyn had the benefit of intensive family resources dedicated to helping her in her final years, when she was diagnosed with dementia. This initiative was launched in 2007 as a major charitable beneficiary of the Geoffrey Beene Foundation to fight Alzheimer's. The group is committed to providing catalyst funding to innovative new projects that advance awareness, diagnosis and research in early stages of Alzheimer's disease. Carolyn's daughter has benefitted from the mentorship of founder, Meryl Comer.
Cohen Veterans Bioscience, 540 Madison Ave., New York, NY 10020. www.cohenveteransbioscience.org: Cohen Veterans Bioscience is dedicated to improving the detection and treatment of post-traumatic stress (PTS) and traumatic brain injury (TBI) and related co-morbidities through cutting-edge research, so that the burden of these conditions may be lessened on service members, veterans, and their families. Ultimately, the basic science that is being developed through their work will facilitate cures for all diseases (from Autism to Alzheimers). Carolyn's daughter is on the Board of Directors and the founder, Magali Haas was personally touched by Carolyn's journey.
