Obituary of Doris Grolock Berlinger

DORIS GROLOCK BERLINGER, age 97, a resident of the Rydal Park Retirement Community and a former 38-year resident of Jenkintown, died peacefully on November 29, 2015. She was the devoted wife of the late Carl F. Berlinger, until his death in 1990. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late George Grolock and the late Ida Lutz Grolock. Doris was raised in Glenside, PA. After graduating from Abington High School in 1938, Doris attended Strafford College in Danville, VA and later graduated from Beaver College, now Arcadia University, in 1940. She was a devoted wife, mother, homemaker and grandmother. Doris was active for many years at the Jenkintown Day Nursey first as a volunteer when it was located in Jenkintown, then as the Director at the current location in Baederwood. She was a regular volunteer at the American Red Cross. She touched many, many lives. She is survived by her loving children: Peter C. Berlinger of Jamison, PA and Joan Mahoney of North Logan, UT; by her dear granddaughter, Erin Nelson and her husband, Chris of Logan UT; by her nieces Nancy Erb and her husband George of Doylestown, PA and Sandra Erksa and her husband Dennis of Charlottesville, VA, by her nephews: Carl P. Berlinger and his wife Ellen of Glenside, PA and Harry C. Berlinger, III of Cumberland, RI and Bruce Berlinger and his wife Sally of Naples, FL. She was preceded in death by her brother, Earl Grolock and by her son-in-law, Victor Mahoney. Relatives and friends will be received on Friday, Dec. 11, 2015 from 10:00 – 10:30 AM, Helweg & Rowland Funeral Home, 1059 Old York Road, Abington. Funeral service and interment will be private.
